Scabies

If you suffer from, or have been diagnosed with a condition called scabies, Dr. Steve Musick and his team of highly skilled dermatology professionals are here to help you.

What Is Scabies?

Scabies is an extremely uncomfortable dermatological condition caused by tiny mites that burrow underneath your skin and lay eggs. It causes a most uncomfortable rash and itching, usually much worse at night.

Scabies may present as tiny pink bumps, blisters or tiny crusts on the skin. The skin becomes extremely allergic to the mites, and this is what causes the uncomfortable itchy rash.

Symptoms Of Scabies

  • Appearance of bumps or crusts around the folds of your skin such as armpits, neck, waist, back of the knees, soles of your feet, or even on your inner elbows. The mites nearly always inhabit the fingerwebs.
  • In children, scabies may appear on the face, scalp, neck, and other parts of the body.

Precautions Of Scabies

Scabies is contagious, and you should avoid direct contact if you suspect that you have scabies. It is not uncommon that when one member of the family contracts scabies, that the rest of the family may also become infected with scabies and need to be treated for it as well.

Diagnosis & Treatment For Scabies

We can immediately diagnosed your condition for scabies by a performing a visual examination and/or by taking a small scraping of the affected area of the skin and examining it under a microscope for the presence of mites.

If you have been diagnosed with scabies, Dr. Musick or his team oh highly trained professionals can prescribe a medication for use on your skin. Itch relief will take a few days to a month and, as the mites die and are sloughed from the skin you will be cured of this miserable condition.

To prevent further spreading of scabies, you MUST wash all clothing and bed linens in hot water, and dry with high heat.

Dry clean items that you cannot machine wash or place all articles in a sealed container for at least 3 days. This allows the mites to starve because they will no longer have a food source.
